Introduction to Sexual Health – Tuesday 7th May 2019 & Tuesday 28th January 2020

Course aim:

To provide an overview of sexual health both locally and nationally and raise awareness of local sexual health service provision, contraceptive options, pregnancy options and support and Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Course objectives:

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Be aware of local and national data relating to STI’s, contraception, pregnancy and abortion rates
  • Become familiar with local and national sexual health campaigns and initiatives including condom card and NCSP
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality for service users
  • Have an understanding of the 9 most common STI’s including symptoms, screening, treatment and prevention
  • Have examined all methods or barrier and hormonal contraception available to service users – including emergency contraception
  • Have explored pregnancy testing and options including abortion
  • Become familiar with the national abortion service BPAS & service
  • provision
  • Have the awareness and knowledge to signpost service users to appropriate local services and initiatives

Professionals working in Luton with vulnerable people of all ages including:

  • Mental health service users
  • LDD service users (Learning Disabilities/Difficulties)
  • Black Minority Ethnic communities
  • Vulnerable young people (under 25)
