Course Aim:

To raise awareness of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and its implication for local practitioners

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training participants will:

  • Have accurate information on FGM including its definition, classifications and prevalence
  • Understand why the procedure is practiced
  • Have discussed physical and psychological consequences of FGM
  • Have examined legislation, safeguarding service users and the roles and responsibilities of professionals in respect to FGM and address misconceptions surrounding this
  • Know about FGM support agencies
